For Lords of Rivers, this bird has always been known as the Graal…
After 3 years of research we are very happy to be able to offer you all the feathers present on this extraordinary bird that is the pigeon Nicobar! And the same as always at L.O.R, legally.
The adult male with a black round head, the neck are adorned with grey hackle feathers becoming extraordinarily iridescent green or deep green. Orange and green reflections dot the entire plumage of the bird, only the tail is white in the adult. Forming a dark blue and iridescent green mantle up to the shoulders.
The light hitting them these hackles can make them appear red copper.
These birds live in half-darkness in the most remote woods of the islands, becoming active especially at dusk.
As Paul Schmookler says in his book, “the late Harry Darbee also mounted salmon flies, and some of his favorite exotic materials were the iridescent lanceolate feathers on the neck of the Nicobar, a pigeon he often used as a hackle on salmon flies.”
For us, at Lords, these are among the most beautiful feathers that exist and among the rarest.
